I have a brother who was drafted into the Vietnam war . He was clever, knew how work the system. He got an easy desk job. He has full VA benefits.
When he came back I saw the photos he took. There was one young girl about 10 years old. He had many pictures of. I asked who is that? Very awkwardly he stuttered and said “Oh that’s uh my friend’s daughter.” No photos of the alleged friend, just the little girl. It wasn’t until he was arrested and jailed for the sexual assaults of his 11 year. old daughter that I realized why he was so awkward when I innocently asked who the little girl was. It still sickens me when I hear him adding “ she was nii-ccee. “
If life were fair, if there was a god, he would’ve died. Instead he continues to cause harm to anyone with the misfortune of getting in his path. And he still reaps the rewards of the VA.
Whew, I could barely make it through your opening, because of how it made my heart shake. I did though and this conversation was cathartic. Congratulations on the reversal of your VA ruling! My first husband ended his life after a TBI and PTSD and it came down to one Lt. Col to decide the LOD ruling that stripped my children and I of all survivor benefits, VA benefits, and his GI Bill. I appealed a decade ago with the strength of state representatives, medical records, and personal statements behind the appeal and it was denied. I have not had the strength to go after it again but I have moved the fight to the local systems you spoke of in both my hometown and the military community that can protect others from the same injustice, both in unmet care for mental health and for survivors.
There is nothing quite like the disillusionment that comes when the military machine spits out people you love or yourself and the fire it puts in a person to fight back. It's the first crack to look through to recognize ALL of the structures require a constant struggle for accountability and growth.
Also, Chris Armitage is doing remarkable work to arm folks with actionable solutions everyday. Thank you, Chris!
We cannot destroy the Empire using the structure of the Empire. That just plays into the Emperor's hands. The Constitution was written by rich, white, male, land grabbing, human traffickers. Just like the people who have taken over our government. Democrats are just as corrupt as Republicans because every elitist system ever invented has always been corrupt. And the Supremely Corrupt Court has proven that Constitutional Amendments don't matter. We must redefine the fight and know exactly what we are fighting for. If we are ever going to have liberty and justice for all we must have a Constitution that is built on liberty and justice for all. Direct democracy, Universal Human Rights. A new Constitution.
Thousands. Abandoned by their own country.
This is very important, we are still not taking appropriate care of our veterans.
Thank you for your service. My grandfather was a WWII veteran and he would be horrified about our government right now. But he would be proud of you!!

The American people want to fight back!!!! We need to do more than just protest tho.
